where can I buy cheap AC compressor
Mine just went nuts and is shot. Its currently disconected. Anyone know where I can score the cheapest AC compressor around..? None of the local junk yards have Jeeps so I'm kind of in a tough luck situation...
Also, how easy to install and recharge the system? It currently works, its just makeing so much noise

where are you located? If you have a 1-800-Radiator around, they are great with setting you up with a a/c kit, which will have the comp with clutch, expansion valve, reciever/dryer, the proper amount of oil and some a/c conditioner. I don't have a price for you, but check that out

Did the clutch go out or did the compressor have a catostrophic failure? You could just replace the clutch but if the compressor grenaded you should change the reciever dryer and flush the system too.

Its for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4.0
I'm not sure what broke but, its making a horrible noise when it isn't engaged and an even worse noise when engaged. I figured I could just replace the compressor and have the system recharged thereafter...
Not sure whats easier?
I'm going to try and find a local junkyard w/ cherokee's... the closest one to me has 0 jeeps... wtf?

Whats the sound your hearing when it's engaged and not engaged? are you sure it's not just the belt going out?
If its a slipping belt it will screech and when the ac pump is on it will screech worse due to having more friction on it turning the pump
Just wondering
