when serp belt loose, what happens?

Hey everyone, i just changed my serpentine belt and before i did this it took forever to roll 2 windows up at once, my engine was running slightly high in temp and my vents wouldn't blow air sometimes. is this the type of things that happen? also what about MPG?

When the belt is loose it will squeal like a bastard and you can have overheating, Charging and power steering issues and A/C not blowing as cold since all those components rely on the belt to make them all work.
As far as MPG. I don't see any way it can really affect that.

I wouldn't start at the serpentine belt. I'd start by Greasing the window track in the door. While you're there, check the weather strip and replace if necessary. I'm about to replace mine, as it's starting to fold under and pinch the window.
After that, I'd go about pulling my battery and alternator and having them tested.
Also, define "slightly high" regarding your temp...

I'm sorry, I thought you meant that you suspected the SB because of electrical weakness and were going to replace it.
Tightening the belt is easy and a quick way of checking your theory out.
Plus, it's good maintenance. As the other poster mentioned, the serpentine belt affects a lot

if the belt is loose, it wont turn your altenator as efficient as needed, causing your jeep to lack electric power.
