Smallest? Why smallest? Largest is p235/75/r15. 30's will rub on a 99.

Ok so can I put 235/75/15 on it without rub BC the tire shops I have talked to keep telling me 225/75 only but another concern is the 15x8 wheel too wide for the stock Cherokee and will I need any backspacing?

What rims are you going to be running? Most of your steel rims are going to have around 4" backspacing which will push the tire out a little bit so rubbing on the lca's shouldn't be a problem at all.
This is my jeep with p235's and it never rubbed:

Well you should be fine then because the backspacing on those is like 3.75 or something. But if your gonna lift it soon why buy new tires now?

Ahh ok. Slicks are no fun in the rain. You can check craigslist or something for some cheap used tires if your current ones are too bad.

^x2 If you're planning on lifting soon check local Craigslist. Also the local tire shops for used tires that they will sell you cheap that will last a couple of months until you are ready to buy new ones after the lift. If you are going with a 3 inch lift you should be able to run 31x10.5s.
