which wheel joint?
Went to O'Reilly to get the right/left wheel u-joints and they had two different partnumber/sizes. How can I tell which one? 96 Jeep Sport 4x4. I think they had an optional u-joint that has a servicable fitting as well, which I want.
Are the bearings hard to replace? Someone thought that I would have to buy the whole assembly since they thought they might be a sealed unit.
Short of taking one off and having them measure it to find out, I wanted to try and find out before running multiple trips.

the greasable u-joints may be weaker than the solid. Just FYI. For normal driving they're fine. Not that I can actually get to the zerks again once they're installed, lol.
96 was somewhat of a "use-them-leftover-parts-over-yonder-until-theyre-gone" transition year at Chrysler. There seem to be a choice of two of several things. Knock an old one out and bring it in to match if you aren't sure.

Thanks guys, answers the question. I have found out on a few parts the 96 to 97 year conversation. My vin happens to be near the end of the 96 line.

i don't think they used any 260 joints in 96.
so i'm pretty sure you want the 297 joints.
those are spicer numbers, they can cross reference to whatever brand they carry.
and yeah, i prefer to use the non greasable ones for their strength. just be sure to pack grease in the cross sections and caps before you install.

IMHO the greaseable ones are the way to go for nothing extreme, just normal driving...keep 'em greased and you shouldn't have to do the replacement job again.
