I didn't read every post so maybe this been said before.
But it seems many people don't know how to calculate fuel mileage.
You need to know your odometer is correct or use GPS.
Fill it up. Write down mileage. After it's 1/4 tank or so, fill it again. Write down mileage. Divide gals used into miles driven.

2001 XJ sport, 24 hwy, 21 city. We don't use huge tires, and everything is stock. And we stay off the skinny pedal.

1996 SE 4.0/manual RWD, currently averaging between 15 and 16 mpg on a 60/40 mix of city/highway driving. Drivetrain and tires are currently stock.

It'd probably be better if I could resist that 3rd gear downshift for overtaking.

Same here. I love the look of surprise when other cars try to cut me off and I have more than enough power to leave them behind.

Kills the mileage but feels so good.

1999 4x4 with just over 188,000 miles consistently getting 18.2 to 18.7 mpg, 19 if I really pay attention and cost down hills, around town, speed range of 30-55mph.

I seldom drive the jeep notable distance on the highway but last 1+ hour highway trip was 20.2 mpg

Back in June, I drove my '96 (3.5"lift, 31x10.50's, stock 3.55 gears) from Denver to Northern California, loaded with about 1000 lbs of gear in the back, towing a trailer with my motorcycle on it.
It was 2,600 miles round trip, and I averaged 16.5mpg for the whole trip.
One leg was as low as 13mpg, and a couple were around 18mpg.........
