Putting the fill cover plug back in a Dana 30..

What's Worse:

A plug that's tightened beyond the recommended 20-25ft-lbs

or

A plug that's not sitting flush with the cover but is torqued correctly.

Probably a plug that's not sitting flush. That would tell me the threads are most likely cross threaded now and would be an even bigger ***** to repair.

Were the threads clean when you went to put it back in?

Don't overtorque it, flush doesn't matter.

Don't have to be flush. Its a tapered plug, torque to spec.

Thanks for the answers guys, I got a replacement plug that fits from the hardware store this morning because the old one had loctite that wasn't gonna come off. I'll have to head back outside and torque it to spec.

Thanks so much
