Default what's this thing called?

Hi guys, this box is just forward of the gas tank, under the drivers side passenger seat. It's got three lines coming out of it. One goes to the gas tank, one goes to a breather box, I think, and one goes to an evap solenoid, both of which are under the hood in front of the passenger seat.

I can't find any reference to it in any diagrams or forums. In some diagrams there's a fuel filter there but this appears to be some kind of plastic box inside that metal bracket.

That's the charcoal canister for your fuel evap system. Mine is a 98 and has one. Most vehicles produced after 1996 have a charcoal canister of some sort.

On my `96 the canister is in the engine bay.

It's a 2001. Sometimes it makes a thump thump noise after everything shuts off. It sounds like pressure equalizing.

My guess would be it's vacuum controlled, once the engine is shut off there is no more vacuum so it goes back to the return position.

Yep charcoal evap canister on '97+ models. The gas tank vents to there, vacuum is applied when the engine is running.
