ok for those whop have read my last post a week ago i have been dealing with a no start no crank no fire issue.i have changed out damn near every thing i can on the engineto the fuel pump. the list is way to long to type .today i even bypassed the the security shutoff not the issue i bypassed the neutral safety switch not the issue tommarrow its grounds, vacume and connections. like i said i have changed out tested or cleaned and rebuilt everything under the hood except the ecm and yes all relays and fueses. so not its leading me to the dash area i.e. relays , connctions, grounds etc. thats where i ran across this bugger. i havent started the jeep or even tried to turn it on but this sucker is burning hot
anyone have a idea whats this part , what it does etc. thanx a ton
I seen that posted before, but cant remember what it was exactly. Shift lock or something? I do remember quite a few stating it gets hot.
Actually, no, i dont think it was the shift lock. It had something to do with the halo around the key, IIRC.

So you're saying it's hot with the key off? Looking at the circuit diagrams, the only thing that comes close is the ballast resistor relay, but that's only powered up with the key on for the fuel pump ballast resistor. Plus the wiring color codes are wrong.

I want to say that is the capacitor that provides the time-limited power to things that stay on like the key cylinder halo light. It does get quite hot when it is being recharged. Each year might be different, but I don't recall any indication that it could keep the vehicle from starting unless it is draining the battery when it shouldn't. Do you by chance have any lights that are staying on in the cabin no matter how long the vehicle is off with doors shut?

But if it was a capacitor, why would it have 3 heavy wires going to it? I could see 2, but not 3.
