if you have the option of full time 4wd then you have the np242. the front axle is a dana 30 and the back is more than likely a chryco 8.25 or the dana 35 but i dont think the 35 was still around in 99 but i could be wrong.

for gear ration you can jack up the back end put the jeep in neutral and mark the drive shaft and have some one turn the back tire while you count the time the drive shaft goes around for one full rotation of the tire. and as far as full time and part time i have never had a 242 all of my heeps have had the 231 i believe the only difference is that with the full time you can throw it in and go and not have to worry about binding on anything. but like i said the 242 im not familiar with.

your gear ratio most likely is going to be 3.55 no matter which axle you have

I'm not sure what the 99's come with, but that lockright you are looking at is 27 spline. There are 27 and 29 spline 8.25's. If you have the 29, that will not work.

If you have a 29 spline 8.25, you are pretty much limited to selectable lockers or the powertrax no slip rear locker. It's $400 or so. Pretty much the same as the lockright but supposed to be quieter.
