What you see isn't always!
I bought my 87 Wagoner around 2 years ago. It runs well, haven't had to many problems. The owner I bought it from; claimed it had 50,000 miles on a new factory motor. The original miles were 177000. I took it to a lube shop today to have new oil, transmission fluid and the works. 175 bucks. Man, maybe I should have done it myself. Anyhow, one of the guys while looking at it noticed a lot of oil caked up on the motor. He said it looked like I need a new head gasket. A new head gasket with a motor only having 50,000 miles, give or take. Made me think. The owner before me was suppose to be a trustworthy guy, so I took his word for it. But, the Jeep doesn't use hardly any oil. I haven't had to put much in it since I bought it almost 2 years ago. I guess you never know. Can't always tell by looking I guess.

I don't plan on spending that kind of dough again for something I could do myself. I was surprised at how much they charge just to lube and fill fluid. My jeep finally started, I guess something got wet after the rain. I'll get a new horn kit for it and I'll replace the gaskets myself. I also need a service manual, which I should have bought with the 175 bucks I got charged for the oil and lube job. Thanks!

The Chilton books are good, but I'd rather have a factory service manual. I saw one advertised on this forum, which I will get if there still available. Right now, I'm out 175 bucks for a lube job. Most women I know don't even charge that much.
