A buddy owed me a little bread and had a set of brand new 4.56 gears (or so he told me) he wanted to give me instead. I figured sweet these 33" boggers are killing my gas mileage, He only owed me 100 bucks and all I had to do was find 4.56's for the back. I have a welded d35 that I really don't wanna sink cash into so I found some 4.56 used gears for it. 60 bucks shipped... once again sweet!! So I bought them.... then met up with my buddy for my front gears...... then looked at the box..... then noticed they where 4.88's not 4.56
What would you do???? Sell the 4.88 to get 4.56's? Trade the new 4.88's for some used 4.56's? Go to 4.88's in the rear?? Give me some thoughts and opinions please

well depends... do u plan on running larger tires? and what kind of driving do you do? long freeway or towing or just around town and to wheel?
Find a solution which would be the cheapest. your right about the turdy five not wanting to sink money into. 4.56 are good for 33's but look around and see what you can find the cheapest to get matching gears.

See there is the kicker.... Down the road, I mean down the road, I'm probably gonna go to 35's. That won't be till I lift 2 more inches and get a slip yoke, and do a rear swap (prolly just a 8.25 since only doing 35's and there simple and cheap...29 spline tho!!) So it would deff be a while and I only really use this truck for around town driving and thrashing the mud haha I have a 97 xj lifted 3" for DD
Thank's for the responces so far!!! I know this is a real no brain question but what if I just did the 4.88's up front and 4.56 in the back, I only use 4x4 in the woods and dirt (like a said really off road only) then just planned on the 4.88's in whatever 8.25 I find. It does have a 242 and I know that has the Full time 4x4 (not sure if that make's and difference)
Like I said that's a no brain question and it's not the right way of doing things but I really think I want the 4.88's but don't wanna spend anymore money on this d35. Just found a 8.25 29 spline for 100 bucks

You absolutely do not want to run 4.56 and 4.88 together!!!!! It will not work!!!! you can have them installed and be fine as long as you do not engage the 4 wheel drive.
