It's a connection right behind the TPS. It's melted! What is it and what caused it?

I was going to simply replace this connection with one I found in a junk yard but then I thought I should probably ask around and see if this has happened to anyone else before I install a replacement and it happens again.

On a similar note, the xj threw a P0121 code last night. It's still there this morning. A few months back it threw a P0123 but went away shortly after and hasn't been back. This doesn't seem like a coincidence...

That's the cps connector. The other side goes to the cps. The heat from the exhaust manifold, gets the connector brittle or melts. The only thing you can really do it either get another end and solder or get the connector itself and add the pins to the new one.

one thread I read was saying that soldering is a bad idea because the connection needs to be precise. Has anyone else read this?

Soldering is the best connection there is. As long as you get a good solder then heat shrink that connection will break before or after but not where is solder.

one other thing.

My TPS is acting up. With the connector off and the multimeter on 2k ohms, I tested the middle and the prong closest to the passenger side. I was getting a weak .8 or so resistance reading. Shouldn't this be infinite or did I not test correctly?
