Im running 10w30 in mine....why you may ask?
Because my kid was screaming his lungs out and that's what I grabbed off the shelf at Wally world. It has never failed me before so im not too worried about it. I even found a mopar brand oil filter while there. I have never seen one there before and know nothing about it but it was the only one they had in stock that fits the XJ.

Ok listen take 5w-30 and 10w-40 and put some on two different figures there's not that big of a difference buddy just compare them and if you run 5w-30 take your oil cap off and Yal see like a smoke come out of the oil hole on the valve cover that means your running to thin of a oil 10w-40 will help with that and let it run for ten minutes or soo then take the oil cap off and let me now if what I said happens alright bud
You might want to find a new teacher then because he is flat out wrong. It's a common misconception.

Oh I'm not worried about it one bit. It's all preference anyway. Run what you feel comfortable using. The only time I've ever had issue with oil was in my SB327 that I first ran in my mud racer. High rpm's and nitrous would make my oil pressure drop lower than I was comfortable with after every pass. After a cool down period it would be fine but in the end....20w50 helped keep the pressure up in that engine.

I can't believe I haven't been in this sooner I love the oil discussions... you want to run the lowest first number you can find or are comfortable with. I run a 5-30 RP in the Cherokee and a 0-40 in the Honda..
Initial number helps with startup wear and thats the most important really.. I will discuss more on the pc.. from the phone its a pain.

Re-read Motor Oil 101......Dr. Haas is a pretty fart smeller.......ah, smart feller.
Sometimes I kill myself.
The 1st number is more important than the 2nd number.

I'm going to start torquing all my hardware to a lower spec then called for because Jim the fastener guy said it will cause less heat build up which in turn does less wear and tear on the threads making the fasteners last longer...
I also need to start packing wheel bearings with vegetable shortening because when regular wheel bearing grease is cold it might cause more wear on the bearing. Plus driving at highway speeds it will start smelling like a deep frier

Ive got Quaker State 10w-40 at 6 1/2 quarts and a Fram PH8(holds that extra 1/2 quart) right now in the Jeep im drivin now which is my Beloved 01 SilverStone, and She loves it. When my 99s 4.0 goes back together Ill proabably put Quaker State 10w-30 or 10w-40 in that one. Napa has better Pro-Select #51515 and Napa Gold 1515 for the oil filter in the oversize that holds extra 1/2 quart and more filtration. Mobil 1 M-301.
