What type of oil?
I know im gonna get a million opinions. And I know there's a search bar. But for the sake of having a healthy prolonged engine life, what type of oil is best in your guys' opinion? Mine has 96,500 on the stock motor, (Bought it with 85k) and has had Mobil 1 5w-30 ran its whole life. Also do additives such as the Lucas Oil stabalizer actually work or is that just advertisement?
Stick with the Mobil 1. Not only is is great stuff but that's what it's had all along.
I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles and I go 10k between changes. Never had a problem and every time I went into and engine, even after 120k plus, wear was almost non-existant.
Oh yeah..forget the additives and just use the Mobil 1.

Most synhetics are very comparable. Find one on sale. Just got Pennzoil platinum full syn 2 for 1... works great.5-30..... don't use fram filters.

I just put in a Castrol Magnatec 5/30 fully synth with a MAN filter. Seems to like it so far. There are much more expensive oils out there but I doubt there was anything as good as a basic full synth available when the 242 was designed!
You don't need oil additives, the oil makers do a lot of research to get their additives right and second guessing them with random snake oil isn't going to help.

Use mobil 1 full synthetic as far as additives I use marvel mystery oil in my gas at every fill up and in my oil I bought my jeep at 10900 I have 240000 now oh and don't forget all your other fluids

Both are too thick to lubricate properly at start-up and both have the same viscosity at operating temp.

There is no real need for 10-30. By rights I should be running 5-20.5-20 will not be too thin until it gets up closer to 300 degrees. If you want to change viscosity summer to winter I would go 5-30 summer 5-20 winter. I'm going to be running 5-20 year round next change. My 5-30 holds good pressure when hot so there's no prob with it getting too thin. Be sure to use syn... well worth the XtrA $$ your engine will thank you.
