What tire size on stock height??
I just bought a 2001 XJ and am looking into getting some bigger tires. I have looked for rims and have decided that Crager soft 8's 15x8 are the way to go. What is the biggest tire that I can fit without rubbing? I would like to not have to trim fenders....preferably that is

I think you should define "rub" are you talking about normal day to day city driving or offroad as well? Answers will always vary on this question as different Jeeps sit at different heights depending on various factors. I have run 30's on some Jeeps and had them rub on others.
I just had 30's put on my stock 96 sport I bought two weeks ago. No rubbing issues driving around town at all. Havent been off the pavement with her yet but clearance looks good.

30's WILL rub on a stock vehicle when offroading. I have 30's on mine with a 3in lift and I have no room. They tuck in perfect... if I did not have lift they would be rubbing everything.

I put 31's on my stock xj because I knew a lift was in my future and I got a screamin' deal on them. I put 1/4" washers behind the steering stop bolts and trimmed my front fender a tiny bit and had no problems. But I wouldn't cruise around with 31's with no intentions of lifting unless I trimmed quite a bit. I had 30's on my jeep before though and didn't do any tweaking at all. 30's are your best bet if you want to just mount them and go.
