Default What is this thing?!

Hello Experts,
I have a 93 Jeep Cherokee 2dr that is similar to the picture attached. I was sanding down the vehicle and I broke off this part. Been trying to figure out what is it called and how to replace/install it again.
Anyone have a clue? If not, I am just thinking of bolting it back in permanently.
Got any advice?

That is a rear vent window. It was apparently an option for a while and they evidently made the vehicle much easier to break into.

I imagine you could go and try to find one from a salvage yard to replace it. I am also of the belief that you could just replace the whole window with a non-vent window from a two door XJ, if that's the sort of thing you'd want to do. As for how to replace it... dunno.

Nice XJ... it's my XJs twin.

That part is called a Rear Quarter Applique, Jeep part # 5502 5788-9
The Applique attaching nut part # is 1150 1854
(above per the 1991-1993 Jeep Mopar Parts Catalog)

I believe the vent window you are referring to that makes it easier to break into is on the door, right above the mirror. Or the rear windows had a vent but it was at the front. The part at the back is just for looks.

Rear vent window:

Rear vent window:

That's the one I'm talking about, on the back window. My brain was seeing it backwards, with the vent near the rear. It's been a long morning.

My friend has rear window vents on his 99 cherokee 2 door. Maybe custom?

Oh ok. If it is easy to break into, Shouldn't I just mold it in?
Seems like a waste of a part. It doesn't serve a function. What do you think?

That piece is for looks.

I recently removed both of those when I cut the top off, there is body behind them.

What did you do to replace the void? Doesn't look right with this "part".

Its bolted on from inside, behind the interior plastics.

One side of mine had been damaged, the previous owner used blact RTV silicon or something to adhere it back to the body.

Probably the way to go for you as well.

That sounds like a good idea. Easy and quick instead of a possibly damaging the interior panels.

You have no idea how long I've search for that part's name and its solution.

Arrgghh....
