what do you consider crappy? not loud enough? because i run pioneer with sony speakers, two MA Audio 1000W monoblock amps and two P2's, and i've had no complaints about my sound. what do you mean by crappy? how did alpine make it better?

Diamond Audio Components and Rockford Fosgate subs will be by far the best bang for you buck. i have owned type s's and they are crap and cost 2times as much than the diamond audio D3 series(components). give them a look. i run the D3's in my sisters car and the HEX in my jeep. and RF Punch P1's in the rear sub box with a Punch amp. i would recommend it to ANYONE. i attached a picture of the type s's i had in the rear sound bar.

just make sure to stay away from type s's type r's are better but still not worth it to me. go diamond audio you will pay less for alot more

Here's a good case of, "You get what you pay for". I myself, used all Rockford-Fosgates speakers. (3-way, full range, 120 watt cap.) the sub is a RF punch II series. (600 watt cap.) I always liked this brand, and used high enough power handling capacity, So I wouldn't blow them out right away. It does pay to use a good head unit. I used a Pioneer Premier DEH-90HHD, These came out in 2000'. Which at that time they sold for $1800.00. (there top of the line) Even right now, there worth $350. (even though there 10 years old) You can control every thing with these. Internal sub, and satliate speakers. (Freq. being sent to each speaker.) Self Auto EQ. (or manual EQ. settings) Time delay (you have to tell it, where your sitting. And what model vehicle, it's in.). Works w/remote, or voice command. It's more of a sound processor (like a home surround system), than a head unit. Plus it has a hard drive attached. Any CD played in it, Can get recorded to the hard drive. You only have to listen to the CD once. Holds a 160 hrs. of music (In WMA format, not MP3). Goggle this model once, ( Pioneer Premier DEH-90HHD ) you would be amazed. There incredible!

It is not about the "name" , it is about specs. Ever brand makes high end speakers and low end budjet speakers. You need to look at how efficient the speaker is or the "sensitivity" . You want this number over 90. This tells you how well the speaker uses the power goming into it.

what i just put in my jeep
I just put four kicker ks5250 speakers(5.25 inch) in mine and a twelve inch JL Audio sub in the back , with a JVC kD-HDR20 head unit. it sounds killerrrr

What you buy depends on your budget, and what type music you listen to. The internet is your friend. If you like your highs on the harsh side go with metal tweeters. If you the highs laid back go with silk tweeters. If you listen mostly to rock/metal go sealed. Rap/Hiphop go ported. Most headunits will make all speakers sound like crap at high volume. If you want any volume and maintain minimal distortion you have to amp your speakers. Try to drive any speaker at high volume from a headunit and you will torch em from the distortion. Some subs are better ported and some sealed. Some will do well either way. And don't buy a $29 ported/sealed sub box. You will regret it if you put a good sub in there with any power. Most of those boxes are made with 1/2" particle board or maybe MDF and they will come apart from the pressure. Make your own box from 5/8" MDF($40 for a 4x8 sheet), some coarse sheetrock screws, and good wood glue. Before you buy speakers go to a car audio store with a cd and listen to different speakers and see what suits your fancy. You will regret buying before listening. Another option is component speakers. More $ as a rule but worth it sound wise. Listen too a coax then a component set. You do get what you pay for. Shop right and take your time you can do a good budget build for $5-600 if you do the install yourself. No expert just spent lots of time researching and spending time surfing car audio forums.

Projectmayhem- post up some pics of your install. If this is in the Cherokee you must have spent a fortune on Dynamat or Phatmat to sound deaden that thing. 151db is off the hook for a DD. If not the Cherokee still like to see it especially if you have video-love to see body panels and glass flex at those pressure levels

that box u want doesnt look like its ported right, look at pawn shops for subs thats where i got mine from and it was great, i just made a new box for it and it rocks! also just get it from walmart. Cheap and its good products, i have the sony xplod head unit with speakers and pioneers inthe back, i have tweeters from a grand cherokee and a planet audio sub powered by a JVC amp, it hits hard and it was very cheap all of it for about $220 i believe.
