What sound system do you have?
I want to replace the stock speakers in my cherokee with some upgrades and I would like an idea for what fits in there and what sounds good. Can you guys list what you got in yours? I have the overhead thing in the back with two speakers and I'd like to put a cheap system in there that sounds descent. The old stuff is blown to hell.

ironic...
I just put a set of component speakers in my truck in the front (96 XJ). Its not too hard to do, the wiring was a pain in the ***** but that can be expected. My recommendation would be to get a component system, a component system has separate tweeters and woofers with a crossover linking them. I got a set of MB Quart Reference RUA for 130 bucks a little while ago and were in my Ranger before I got the XJ. I made a nifty way of installing the new tweeters in the stock location as well. I'm thinking of getting some speakers for the back tailgate and roof pillar soon.

When I put a new head unit in I didn't have the cash to go component so I bought a nice set of 5.25" 3 way speakers for the front and rear. Sound is pretty good and works just fine for me. Now if I had to cash I would definitely go the component route indeed.

hmmm.. sound system eh?
well.. i am runnin pioneer 6.5's in my front doors ( no cuttin needed to fit those; 6.5 is the biggest u can get in there), and in the back i cut the clips off the wiring connecters for the old speakers in those little speaker hole dealy's, extended the wiring down through the panels in the back on each side, and hooked the wires up to 2, 4 channel Sony Xplod 6X9's i have boxed in the trunk.
All of that is along with my Alpine head unit and 12" Kenwood sub ( i mix matched on brands bigggg time :P)
if your lookin for inexpensive but good quality.. i recommend Kenwood but if its all about the quality then go Alpine.

6.5's?? Haven't tried that no mod needed you say? Does everyone have that back roof pillar thing? If you know what I'm talking about let me know if not I'll have to take a picture of it, I bought my XJ a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure if its stock or not. Looks stock. Will 6.5's fit in there as well? how about the back hatch?

i have a kenwood cd play, pioneer speakers on the sound bar.
the jeep came with 3 12" JBL subs. got rid of those in a heart beat. I hate systems. I throw to much in the back to have that crap in there.

i just put in 5.25 infinty's in the front and 6x9's in rear. (i had in my last vehicle). i had to trim out to fit the bigger speakers in, but i looks BA and sounds even better. i just put in a dual cd receiver which had a aux input and also takes a usb drive for mp3's. IMO, sounds good since i haven't had a cd player / radio unit for about 3 months. (the old one died.)

Alpine 7894 MP3/CD unit (one of the best), 2 BA 5.12's up front. Soon I will install my tweets/x-overs. I do not really need any speakers in the back, but If I come across a sound bar I will have some more.

Alpine head unit and amp.
Polk 5 1/4" & separate tweeter components in soundbar w/crossovers.
Polk 6 1/2" & separate tweeter components w/crossovers in Q-forms up front. The Q-forms are molded kick panels made to mount speakers into. I bought mine at Crutchfield.
Polk 4" two ways mounted in stock door location.
Amp powers all four tweeters & 5 1/4" & 6 1/2" separates and is mounted under the passenger's side seat. The head unit powers the 4" two ways mounted in the doors.
I added an 8" Blaupunkt self powered sub under the diver's seat to fill out the bass.
The system plays very loud and very clear. If rap is your thing, you would want a bigger sub. For accurate representation of classic and hard rock, it sounds great. Plus, everything appears pretty stock.
I'll take some pics.

Well I am kinda cheap so I have the wonderful factory cd/cassette player, factory front speakers, and Infinity reference rear speakers. I would recommend the Infinitys to anyone though, they sound really good.
