most people would suggest around 4.5", but i personally like 3" lift on 33s for the low center of gravity and wide stance. gives the jeep a lot of stability. but to run this setup you will have to trim your fenders more than with a 4.5" setup.

u can run 33's on no lift to 8". just depends on how u want it to perform and look? personally i think 4.5" on 33s is a perfect balance for a dd.

to basically slap it on and go: 4.5" lift

I'm already lifted 3.5" and have been looking around for 33's to stuff in there. My buddy has a set of 35's he might part with. hhmmmmmm

But doing 33's on 3.5" requires more cutting than 4.5". Pretty much any tire larger than 31/32's needs some trimming so they dont rub

this is probably because you had stock backspacing. Good to use something aroung 4inch area. Also to the OP people say the rubicon express (re) tend to run tall. I like 4.5 lifts with a little trimming with 33s. When i need tires i plan to bump up.

Here's a 5.5 RE lift with 33 Duratracs. Rubs the plastic rear qtr just slightly once in a while off road. Otherwise great.

Depending on weather or not your tires are TRUE 31s, 32s, or 33s will make a difference, too.

Even tires advertised as 31s or 33s are sometimes not really that large.

On my 4.5" lift, 31s look way too small, so I'm going to step up to 33s. I'm pretty sure that I can easily fit 33s with no backspacing / trimming; therefore I suppose you could fit 33s on a 3-3.5" lift with a little trimmy trim trim or maybe even just pulling off the flares (anyone know if that's legal?).
