Default What’s this wire for

I’m doing an ac overhaul and I’ve noticed this wire and I have no idea where it goes.

I typically wouldn't reply with a guess, but I believe that is a RENIX era distributor connector. I see you have an HO engine. Perhaps the vehicle is RENIX era though. This is a photo of the connector on my '88.

Perhaps the cam sensor is what used to be the distributor?

I seen that but you never know these days. One example being an engine swap done years ago with connectors left dangling with the next guy or gal trying to figure out what it is and where it went.

Do this have anything to do with the ac compressor?
or does the compressor only have the one wire. It’s a 2000 jeep cherokee classic 4.0

It has to be a pressure switch, my compressor is not engaging, I hot wired it and it runs fine. My question now is what kinda sensor or switch is that called and Where can I get one.

Again, it's your AC High Pressure Cut Off switch. It's located on the AC discharge line. What happened to existing one? You can get one at RockAuto.
