What’s the hole on the side of the mechanical fuel pump for

Default What’s the hole on the side of the mechanical fuel pump for

There’s a hole on the left side of my fuel pump on my 85 2.5 and It’s spitting oil out but I looked in the Hayes manual and there’s nothing that says anything about it there’s no hoses that lead to there no threds in the hole or anything I’m really confused about it and need help

My understanding is that it's a port that would allow fuel to escape if the diaphragm were to break. Probably also an air hole to allow pressure to equalize. You're sure it's oil, not gas? Is it seeping or rapid and steady?

Either way, sounds like it's time for a new pump.

pressure equalization hole. Sounds like your diaphragm is leaking

its kinda like a weep hole on a water pump ,if anything leaks out of it I would guess it needs replaced

They are future leaks, Get a pump. Really, they are made to do that it is a sign you need a new one.
