Default What rear shocks will fit a 3" lifted xj

Hello everyone i've been searching all over and cant seem to find the article i read before about what shocks to use.

I bought i 3in lift kit from my buddy who just totaled his jeep, he bought the kit about 2 weeks ago but never got a chance to install it so i bought it from him for cheap.

The problem is the kit he bought did not include shocks i know what shocks to use on the front that will work for a 3" lift but not the rear i was hoping that i could run to the auto store to pick up some rear shocks that might work.

So my question is i remeber reading that another vehicles rear shocks will bolt right up to the xj if your doing a 3" lift, i just cant remeber which ones i though somebody said rear jk shocks but they dont have the same ends that the cherokee has so i dont think it was those, so any help would be wonderful.

Is the kit an add a leaf type or complete new rear spring? If the spring is new, what is the free arch of the spring?

Its a AAL its the rough country 3" lift kit just with out shocks.

I know the factory shocks are about 20.25 inches at full extend so guessing a shock around 23 in full extend should work.

Chevy S10 shocks are three inches longer than XJ stock shocks. Get a set for a late 90s model. You will need to modify the top mounts slightly.

If all you have is add a leaves, stock length shocks will work. You won't need to change your bump stops either.

I just go with RC 9000's. I can get all 4 shocks shipped to my door for $143. Just make sure you order from Grimuss so you get the 10% discount.

I'm looking to this myself, would factory JK Rear shocks work? I've found dozens on Ebay cheap (basically factory take-offs), and they have the eyelet bottom and barpin top. Monroe dosen't sell any shocks for the JK's yet so I couldn't find any specs, anybody tried the front or rear shocks from a JK on a lifted cherokee?

The front would need a BPE or the bar pin swapped out but length looks sufficent.

generally with a 3" lift you want an 8" travel shock

mid 90's ford f-150 rear shocks are good for 3-4" of lift on an xj

I had found a few options including the F-150 shocks:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/diy-front-bpes-23170/

Just need to make some BPE's, trying to see what all people have used to make em, I know about the rear sway bar bracket for rear BPE's, but I'm trying to see if anyone has made any from something like 1" steel 2/16" thick maybe or maybe something from like lowes, home depot, and tractor supply

Just did some more research of the factory jeep JK shocks will bolt work perfectly with a jeep xj with 2 to 4.5" of lift.

The rears fit perfectly and the fronts just need the have the Bar Pin swapped over bt a very easy and cheap way if you doing a cheap diy lift or needing to get new shocks to replace the old ones with your kit.

Here the writeup on them.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/i...ite-up-603221/

Also if you just need rear shocks and cant find the jk 88 to 92 comanche rear shocks will work for 2 to 4" of lift just swapped the bar pin over.
