Default What are the pros & cons of a block lift?

I've got the RC 3" installed, and of course the bug hit me. I'm looking to go up to 4.5" so I can run 32s. Can I do a block lift on top on my RC 3" for a total of 4.5-5" of lift?

There is only one pro for lift blocks, extra lift for little cash. The cons on the other hand could go on forever. The main thing is axle wrap caused by the extra leverage the bolcks have against the leaf springs. Think of it as a ratchet on a stuck bolt. With a standard 10 inch long ratchet you may have trouble freeing up a rusted bolt, but put a 3 foot pipe on it and you have more pulling force with less effort. Lift blocks do the same thing to the springs and will cause the springs to flatten out and begin to have a negative arch resulting in the rear end sagging.

Pros: you get your lift needed
Cons: Axle wrap, blown DS u-joints, wear out your leafs quicker, snap leaves, Wheel hop.

Just go out a get a boomerang shackle with 1.5" lift. Better ride, better flex, no cons.

I need another 1.5" of lift, so I'm trying to find a way around buying another whole kit. What's a boomerang shackle? I don't know much about this.

Revolver shackle? Shackle sits at a certain height, and drops for a few extra inches. I have Teraflex revolver shackles and they are awesome!

Teraflex revolver shackles. I just looked them up on Summit racing and its almost cheaper to buy a new leaf pack.

I wanted the revolvers tell I heard about all there "cons" like; extending when coming down a steep drop making u tip,
the fact that just cause there extending ur wheel down doesn't mean u have any weight on that tire for traction,
& talk about axle wrap, blown DS u joints, & wheel hop! DUDE DON'T GO WITH THE REVOLVERS!!!

blocks are a no no! axle wrap is guaranteed! saw an xj at an event here in town loose an axle due to blocks and also saw a blazer do the same thing.
just buy the 3.5 inch packs with a 2 inch boomerang shackle and you will be better off for longer.

If your not wheeling much and mostly want the lift for looks then i think your alright... most lifts on all my buddies trucks have blocks...even got one buddy with stacked blocks on a F350 and a programmer... ran it for a year like that and never had a problem cause he was always on the road of course... the lift acually called f stacking... which actually is not a good idea... one is enough... lol
