I went back out this morning and started up the Jeep and the clutch is back cycling at 5 seconds again, grrr. So that must mean I have a leak somewhere. Guess I'll try charging with what's left in the can and if that leaks down again then I'll just taker her to a shop. It's worth a try.

Sounds like we are in this together.... Mach, I just went out and loaded the whole can to get it 30psi. Man there was some cold air flowing after that. My condensor does not cycle like it did or as often but it did continue to cycle... I supose it has to. The dryer was covered in condensation, at least I think that it was the dryer. It did hold the 20psi I put in yesturday afternoon though. Is it possible for the system to loose the r134a over time without there being a leak. I mean, assuming the PO never filled it before. I did notice that my condensor was made in 2003 so is seems there was issues with this system in the past.

When you take it in, make sere the pro has a freon detector. If he doesn't have one, he is not a professional. You could still put some dye in there and go out and buy a blacklight, but by the time you're done, you'd probably spend more than a pro. Plus he is going to vaccuum out all the old oil, R134 and condensation before he puts now in and It'll be colder than you would ever be able to make it without a vaccuum.

Good Luck!

I've had trouble with Chrysler a/c systems in the past. Not that they're at fault here, it's probably just a minor leak casued by 10 years of use. I doubt I'll have it fixed since the XJ is my beatin-round-town truck and if I want cold a/c I'll drive my Mustang. On second thought...I drive it all winter and the defroster uses the a/c to make heat. So I guess I could justify getting it fixed for that.
