Default what the hell is this?

I broke this heater hose 90 degree elbow when giving the jeep a tune up... Passenger side near the firewall. Looks like it can only be replaced as a whole. Any advice would be much appreciated! Especially because now I have to ride my yamaha to work in the cold tomorrow...

Heater control valve.
Bypass it with 2 hose couplers and cap the vacuum line.
You'll never miss it.

Any ill effects. When I broken mine I thought I had to replace it. So I did. Does it mess with AC?? Mine has been bugging me cause that stupid vacuum keeps coming off.

Nope, none at all.
Late model XJ's don't have them.

Air is diverted by the blend door. The air goes through the evaporator or the heater core, but not both.

I once described it, "Be careful! Those things are built like those toy cars where you push in the bumper and the whole thing flies apart!"

So no coolant actually passes through it? I haven't started it yet. Don't want to find out the hard way..

I just removed mine the other day for that reason, they always break. Get 5 feet of heater hose, run straight lines from the tstat housing and water pump to the heater core.

The factory cleaned things up when they eliminated the HCV in '97. As mentioned, just get some bulk heater hose (5/8" & 3/4") at the parts store and go direct from the motor to the heater core.
