Default What the heck is this thing on headliner?
What's the odd looking thing on the ceiling of my '96 XJ? It's plastic and has a black bulb type lense.

Maybe. I bought it used and I'm stumped. Never seen anything like it. Saw another XJ yesterday with the same thing, so I know it's a factory thing.

Yes, it's the keyless entry signal receiver.

Definately keyless entry. The circuit board is housed behind the plastic cover; the black dome is the eye. These models had a 1 button remote. Push button it's locked, push again, it's unlocked.

I get an oil slick. But I think that's standard on the XJ too.
