Exclamation what the heck did I do

So, I got one of those ebay white face guage kits, you know, the ones that they say you don't need to take off the needles, Well, any way, I took off the needles, and now, with it installed, I put the needles on, and can't get the tach to work at all. any ideas, or did I just buy myself a new guage cluster?

X2 - Make all the connections are properly seated. Simply pulling the needle off should have no effect on the tachs function.

Why did you take off the needles!!! Even it worked it'd prob be off anyway. I dunno about getting it working again, but for future reference: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoWhiteGaugesInstall.htm

yeah, it has two plugs in the back, and they are in the bucket the guage cluster sits in, but I will double check for sure when the little one goes to bed.

I have a 01, and it is all one piece, unlike the one you show in the your write up, which is very nice, by the way.

no, it is not.

I also checked the needles again, again, all work but the tach. the tach seems like there is less resistance to put the needle in the hole than the rest. I will be pulling the whole assembly apart next to investigate. Stupid white face gauges.

I agree.

they say don't pull the needles because YOU'LL SCREW THEM UP and they will be off. I absolutely refuse to pull needles...it will never be accurate again.

your problem...you pulled or pushed too hard, pushing or pulling on the spindle and wrecked something internal on the tach.

I'd buy a whole new gauge cluster, have a PROFESSIONAL swap your speedometer gauge into the new cluster, and recalibrate your needle to be in the correct position.

generally, if an aftermarket kit tells you not to do something, you don't do it.

sounds like you need to hit up a junk yard to get a new gauge set up then to bad that sucks. i guess you will never touch the needles again though
