First xj/basketcase. i have a 94 xj 4.0that was missing the engine and some of the harness's for the charging/starter side, i was wondering if you guys could direct me or post some pics or illustrations of how the harness's are routed. Im not sure where my ground wires go and come from, i have a ground on the fender apron by where the battery sits but it looks like it was cut, ground wires coming from the starter, not sure where they bolt to, also, looks like im missing the wire/plug for the distrbutor, and have a long set (3) wires coming off the main harness just above the trans tunnel that doesnt have a connector on the end, looks to be cut off, and also has 3 ground wires coming from it! No vacuum lines or routing sources, have looked on line and my 20 dollar haynes paper weight is useless!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!! i just lost my job a week ago , main car is going to the bank, i need the jeep for daily transportation!!!!! please please please!!! thanks

 

there are two grounds in the engine bay of a cherokee. One is the ground you mentioned that runs from battery (-) to the fender. The other is at the rear of the valve cover (drivers side), and is a flat copper strap that runs to the firewall. The starter should not have a separate ground (it uses the engine block ground).

 

There is a ground on the back of the block on the passenger side. I am working on finding some pictures. Here is a vacuum diagram for the engine, the A/C and heater diagram is a little confusing a picture would probably be better.
