Sorry Mudder. I didn't mean that in a bad way towards you..... Just a statement.
But you should get an XJ and put a suspension lift in it. If you love drive over rough trails, you will fall in love, and then get "the bug"!!!! Next thing you know, you've sold the kids off to get that 8.5" long arm lift....HE-HE (j/k)
XJ are a great and reliable Jeep!!!

OK now that we have covered that.... Your best bet Mudder214 is to find a XJ with a minimal amount of rust on the body. Check the floor pans front and rear, at the tops of the A-pillars and rockers. The four door XJ has a stronger body structure than the two door, if you plan on using it offroad (most of us do) the four door will hold up better in the long run. The 4.0 engin with a AW4 (auto trans) and a 8.25 rear axle is about the most bomb proof powertrain you can get on a newer XJ, unless you can find an older one still in good shape with a Dana 44.

i absolutly love my xj and i love the look of the xj in general, but my wheelin rig is a zj cause i like the extra power the v8 has plus it is alittle bit more flexy since it has all coils. either way, you cant go wrong with a jeep

Other than fitting larger tires... none. You do not gain any ground clearance from it. Maybe some just prefer the "look" of a body lift.
