Default What Fluids Should I put in my Cherokee

I want to replace all of my fluids and I don't have a manual for my 1999 Cherokee Sport 4.0L part time 4wd.

Brake Fluid
Transmission Fluid
Steering Wheel Fluid
Antifreeze

Also, tips on doing the radiator flushing?

All of those fluids are easy to find at any auto parts store.

DOT 3 brake fluid
Dextron 3 Trans fluid
50/50 coolant
Any power steering fluid

Best way to flush the coolant is to remove the lower radiator hose. Don't bother with the drain ****. It'll break or if it does open, it'll drain slow.

Don't forget 10W30 engine oil and a napa oil filter.

Transfer case: Dexron III
Front and rear axles: 75W90 or 75-140 synthetic for HD use.

All of the above is spot on. You can get all of it but the NAPA filter at Walmart and save a few bucks. Your XJ will be happy with a standard Purolator too. Just keep walking past the Frams there though.

And the DexronIII III will read DexronIII/Mercon compatible. I have used the Suoer Tech brand for years in all of my cars and it is just fine...so is ST oil for that matter. Their oil filters were good too but they don't sell them anymore.

Thats good and all, but Brake Fluid which i would use DOT3 or DOT4, or if you want High Temp performance DOT5.1(but you have to Bleed Dry the whole system first for best results), Transmission Fluid which I recommend GudOl WallyWorld Supertech DexIII/Merc in the gallon jugs, Power Steering Fluid which I would use SuperTech or Prestone(Just cause thats all Ive used in many Jeeps with only Good results) and Coolant/AntiFreeze which I used to use PetFriendly Prestone LowTox, but now seem to use mostly plain Jane 50% SuperTech, Prestone or Prime(whatever is cheapest pretty much)and 50% Crystal Geyser H2O(from Weed, California) or 50% Wenatchee, WA tapwater. This only 4 fluids though in a Jeep Cherokee. There is also the Engine oil(I shouldnt get started on that one,.Bobistheoilguy.com), transferCase fluid, front&rear axle gear oils, and windshield washer fluid. Those are for tomorrow.

I prefer Wix/NAPA Gold oil filters. The oversize one is 51515/1515.

Just don't use ATF in a manual trans. They like 75W-90 gear oil.

You have to buy them. There are several on eBay now. The newer Cherokees seem to have cheaper manuals. This site doesn't condone other methods...

It is probably fine, the Dodge Durango/Dakota use the same T-case and recommend ATF+4. I doubt there is any advantage to it though. In the T-case the fluid just acts as a lubricant rather than also a hydraulic fluid so a slightly thinner or thicker fluid won't cause slipping like they can in the trans. I think they just recommend Dexron III for the T-case in the XJ since it is what the trans uses and it is easier not to buy 2 different fluids (Note: the Durango/Dakota used Chrysler transmissions that use ATF+4).

But DO NOT use ATF+4 in the transmission. AW4s are known to have problems with ATF+4 and should only use Dexron III / Mercon.

i thought atf+4 is what's supposed to be used?

edit: after some research I guess not.. time to change my trans fluid
