What To Expect
What in your opinion should I expect to pay either a stealership or other mechanic business for replacing a rear seal in my 2k?

RMS part itself is about $40. Mitchell on-Demand lists the job at 3.1 hours of labor, assuming they don't disconnect the tranny. Figure add in the oil pan gasket remove and replace, then you got another $40 in parts and another 2.1 hours of labor. I would say somewhere between $600 and $1k.
I'm doing my oil pan gasket and rear main this weekend in my 2000 XJ. Got my parts and 2 bags of kitty liter to soak up all the oil from my driveway when I get done. Oh, and 2 solid days.....because with my luck on my rig, I'm going to need it all!

I have been quoted around $300 if I supply the seals. Be careful and make sure you talk to the mechanic. Make sure they know what they are talking about. Not because of the level of difficulty but when they start talking about dropping the tranny, they either have no idea what they are doing, they think you are clueless, or they are stacking labor hours on it. You can find someone to make this happen for around $300 maybe even less.
You don't have to remove the motor or tranny, just so you know.I did my RMS a few months ago.I never did one or even saw one done and it only took me about 3 hours. It's really not hard to do.Give it a try.The seal was $18 at AZ.
