what engine will work?

i have an 87 or 89 wagoneer pretty much the xj...i was trying to figure out whats the newest year engine i could stick into it and will i have to use the newer engines tranny ...i was looking to stick one of the 190 hp engines into ...and i would like to know the best budget boost to use for lift

Any motor will work yes. You will need the computer and wiring harness as well.

You don't need to replace the computer or harness to do a basic R&R of a long block. simply retain all of your bolt-on's and re-use what you've got.

You can actually get a decent amount of power out of that renix with an HO head and manifolds upgrade.

i mean changing the engine will just give me that extra 20? horsepower so what can i do to my engine to just give it that power that the HO has and what can i use from a newer one like the overflow tankk and whatever else..
