Default What does a "Towing Package" mean on Cherokee

I have been looking at Late 90s Cherokees and have seen one with "Towing Package" but without specifics on what that means. My Jeep dealer says that it must be after market wiring because Cherokee sports did not have any sort of towing upgrades.

Anyone have an idea what this might mean? Seller says that it will make my breakfast in the morning and two 100,000 Metric Tons of cargo for 1 million miles on one tank of gas. I am a little skeptical....

Troll?

Well i'll answer whether its trolling or not. A towing package means it comes with a receiver hitch and possibly a 7 or 4 pin trailer connector.

What he's not telling you is that's only with the Martha Stewart package and the 70,000 gallon gas tank option.

Default Sorry, I don't know what a troll is...

Well I might be showing my stupidity but I don't know what a troll is in this context. I am just trying to figure out just how much I am being miss informed by the various sellers I am talking to.

He claims it has a "towing package" and I believe that could be anything from a light connection to a complete upgraded cooling system. I would guess that the upgrade is for the transmission as well.

So, how can I tell if it is upgraded with more than just the addition of a break light connection? What should I be looking for?

Lead Foot's links are good. For any XJ you consider seriously, run the VIN through that Jeep link and it will come back what was on it from the factory. For example, if it has a tow hitch but there's nothing listed on the build sheet, that's aftermarket. If the seller won't give you the VIN (or you can't take a picture of it) that's a pretty hefty warning sign
