Default What do YOU use for a cup holder?

I don't like the factory cup holder because I use the e-brake every time I park my 5-speed jeep, so I'm curious as to how everyone holds their favorite beverage while they drive. As well as pros and cons of their cup holder.

That damn sticker wouldn't come off for the life of me. The cup in there is from my 'road trip' to cheyenne and back. The remote is for my stereo. And that black bag.... jeep stuff, I swear.

Pros: Easy to reach while driving, holds phone, remote, ipod, and a drink.
Cons: Gets jammed under the center console, uncomfortable for the passenger, isn't securely mounted.

i always wondered why my father had two full rolls of duct tape on the tranny hump in his old ford and on the lawn mower hood. i never asked but one day i saw him riding around mowin the lawn with a beer inside the roll of duct tape. i then figured out the duct tape mystery.

the guys at my work who do the floors at night have rolls on their floor machines for water.

just another use for duct tape

Default Cupholders...my take

This is an image of the two different style cupholders that are offered for the factory XJ "long" console. Both hold cans of soda/drink fine even some coffe cups..won't hold monster cups.

STYLE A: This is what EVERYONE offers on the net (eBay, Quadratech..etc)

PROS: Attaches with minimal tools or time. UNLESS you have power mirrors.

CONS: Shortens e-brake travel. One thoughtless second of applying e-brake and SNAP...youre looking for a cupholder AGAIN. Minimizes grip of e-brake handle. Only allows you to grab first 2" of handle with fingertips.
IF you have factory power mirrors, cupholder covers switch...but there is a cut-out you can force out to accomidate the switch BUT the thickness of cupholder is far thinner than that of the original power mirror switch mounting so switch is rather loose. Console lid does not latch solidly either, you actually have to slam it.

STYLE B: Can be found on eBay...once and awhile or in eBay stores.

PROS: Does not hinder use of e-Brake. Easy clip-on mounting

CONS: Encroaches on the passenger's leg-room. Easily bumped or cracked.
Easy clip-on mounting is easy POP-OFF. 93-newer consoles have the clip holes, 92 and older don't. I had to drill and countersink for trim screws to "solidly" attach it to the console.

The above pic is HER 91 Laredo. She has BOTH. Yes both. Its a DD and she picks up a co-worker. Both the cupholders get used daily. I replaced her e-brake cables AFTER installing the STYLE A cupholder, so I just adjusted the e-brake accordingly. She also has the power mirror switch...I, personally don't like how loose it fits

My 94 Sport (Lil Red) came with STYLE A. But I despised the lack of room for the e-brake so I removed it and opted for just STYLE B. Mine is a DD but I commute ALONE. After awhile you get conditioned to where the cupholder is, even in the dark

P.S. I do have a STYLE A cupholder available. Used-not abused. Unmolested for switch

Howler I really like that style B cupholder you got there, I would have to drill some holes considering I drive an '87.

Anyone else have pics of their setups?

that's exactly how my xj looks. i have both.
it's really not in the way of my tb's legs. at least no complaints. but it is only a wheeling rig.
can't have enough cupholders for a long day out. we usually start with 2 coffee's each. haha.

I have the factory holders and a wife in the passenger seat. "baby can you hand me my soda?" while i was living in Germany, i owned 5 POS cars. most older european cars HAVE NO CUPHOLDERS!! you have to get creative if you dont want boiling hot coffee melting your ***** off.

Right, then. Thanks for the input guys. I think i'm going to do a bit of drilling and attach my cup holder that I currently have to the console like Style B does.
