What do ya think of these tire cracks?
I acquired these Kumho 33 MT's but have noticed a fair share of cracking in them...(not sure how old they are)
The lower shot also shows a crack in the sidewall, which is my biggest worry.. What do you guys think? They were rolling around on a TJ til a couple weeks ago.
You can see the crack in the sidewall along the bottom of the lettering..

It's called Dryrot, the tires are a bit on the older side.
You can ID the manufacture date from the sidewall, theres an oval pad with 4 digits... it'll be the week and the year of manufacture.
Example: 1209 would be the 12th week of 2009.

Wow, do they hold air?
Thats some serious dry rot. The crack in the side could blow out and create quite the mess of whatever fender its above it. Thats a tough call. I wouldnt run them.

How to date the tire using DOT number
The last three or four digits give the date the tire was made. For all tires built after 1999, this will be a four-digit number with the first two digits giving the week number, and the last two giving the year. For many tires built previous to 2000, the date indicator will consist of three digits, the first two giving the week number and the last giving the last digit of the year. In the example below, the last four digits of the DOT code are 4501, so our tire was made during the 45th week of 2001.
DOT 4564 8734 5678 4501
This doesn't answer your question but thought it might help you with how old the tire really is.

i've seen many kumho's, mud kings, super stag, etc. look even worse and driven on for a couple of years with no problems. it's normal for those brands apparently.
but yeah, just carry a full size spare. they're fine for the most part. nothing i'd worry about anyways. lol.

Well IMHO cracks on the tread is one thing but when the sidewalls start cracking I wouldn't use them on the road beyond just city streets. I would never get on the highway when the sidewalls show signs of dry rot I don't care if they are 10 ply. That's just me. If you are on the highway and blow out a sidewall it's not going to be pretty at 60 mph+.
