Default What do these wires go to???

Does anyone know what these wires are for? Turn signals and wipers work. This is the back of the turn signal switch.

It looks like someone twisted some wires together and didn't take the time to make it look nice.

should be the wipers and squirters. Those wires are twisted together, so that is probably why the wipers (and squirters?) are still working. You should at least wrap those connections in electrical tape.
The turn signal wires are not inside the stalk like the wiper wiring.

Don't just tape them. Twist them tight clip a pair of hemostats on them and solider them. then tape them.

I am going to solder and heat shrink them. I was just curious if anyone knew what they went to.

Hmmm. Perhaps there was a different steering wheel on your XJ and it had push button controls on it for features that also work elsewhere?..What year is it?

looks like ignition switch. take the covers off and see where they run. theres a white connector by the steering wheel the is for your ignition. im betting thats it. the yellow is starter and red is 12v constant.... touch em and it should try to turn over if im correct... those are the wires i taped into to wire my push button start.

It looks like somebody got lazy when replacing the turn signal switch and just cut and spliced (a poor job at that) the new harness to the old instead of running the new harness down the column. I would replace the switch again and do it right.

Looks kinda aftermarket to me. Typically factory wires are alot darker. I could be wrong though. Maybe ur xj had a different steering wheel? As long as everything seems to work get rid of them.

I agree it must be some sort of aftermarket add-on or PO splice/hack. It looks like only 4 wires coming out of where the wiper stalk should be. The wiper switch (at the base of the stalk) has 7 wires coming out of it. Under that is the turn signal cam, that uses 8 wires and 2 more for the horn. Cruise contril is 2 tiny wires going up to the wiper stalk. Its nothing to do with ignition, that is all was lower on the steering column, under the dash.
