Default What to check if no 4x4 (4WD)

Hello. How is everyone? Quick question or two. I just got a 1993 XJ 2 weeks ago and since we may be getting 12 or so inches of snow starting tomorrow night I was making sure everything was ready as far as the 4WD. I shifted into 4H on dry pavement and to me it just doesn't feel like it's going into 4WD (Moving at a slow speed). I have a 1994 XJ and when I shift into 4H you can feel it driving differently. The "Part Time" light doesn't come on on the dash cluster. Now my 94' has the 242 transfer case and the new 93' I got has the 231 transfer case. Will this make a difference in the 4H position?

Now assuming it's NOT going into 4H what quick things could I check?

Start by checking the shift linkage to the TC (does it feel like its shifting?).

OK I was messing with it today and everything seems to be moving. It definitely goes in 4L as that is a LOT more noticable but 2H and 4H seem the same.

Get all four tires off the ground and engage 4x4.

That'll tell you real quick.

Or go do donuts in a field or something.

As you know. Low is going to be way low, high will seem alot like 2w till you try to turn.
It will buck and jump on dry like crazy.
If you can't do a doughnut in the snow your 4h is just fine..
Your symptoms seem weird..
