Default what backspacing is "healthy"?

Got my eye on some used rims advertised with 3.5" of offset. I'm assuming the seller is thinking backspacing. Is this healthy for my axle bearings? According to my math, I'm a full inch off my centerline for the rim. How much strain is that on my precious underparts?

My math:
15x8 rim has a total wheel width of 9"
9 divided by 2 = 4.5
4.5 - 3.5 backspacing = One inch from center (AKA -1.0" offset).

Thanks,
s

3.75" back spacing would be fine for that set up...

Good question.
I'm running 10.5 on my 31x10.50x15s. I may ultimately go wider since I've been bit pretty hard by the jeepin' bug, but I'm sitting at the 10.5 now and don't have the money to upgrade in the near future.

OK. That is good to know but, what about the 3.5" that I'm thinking about buying now?

3.5 is still fine on an 8 inch rim.
