Pardon my noobness, but what is backspacing, how do you adjust it, and what do you adjust it for? I keep hearing people talk about it and I have no idea what it is.

so it's the space between the wheel and the back of the wheel well?
by "back" i mean if you are facing the wheel, looking towards the center of the vehicle.

Here is a quick answer....
Backspacing is the measurement on a rim from the inside of the mounting surface to the inside edge of the rim.
To measure it, lay a straight edge across the inside edge of your wheel and measure to the wheel mounting surface..
Can you adjust backspacing???... No, a wheel has what back spacing a wheel has.
A wheel spacer doesn't change the backspacing, its simply moves the wheel out further.
How does backspacing effect me?? Well a wheel with too wide a tire or too much backspacing can cause the wheel or tire to rub on the inside of the wheel well or on steering components. Or in extreme cases cause you to not be able to turn correctly...
