So I finally got a xj.. and was wondering what this is? Ive had a few other xj owners look at it and they dont know either. Maybe a compass? i dunno. Any ideas?

that went with the stock alarm on the jeep. you would point the alarm key towards this unit.

My buddy has that same thing he seems to think it's a compass... it's O.K. that I don't know b/c mine doesn't have one....

Crappy infrared keyless entry receiver. Mine's got one too. You can buy an IR transmitter for it, but according to the PO you had to actually be standingat the door with the transmitter pointed directly at it and it might work.

On the upside, all the wiring for the keyless entry is up there. So you can buy a cheap RF one and wire it in easily enough.

www.keylessride.com will have a remote for your XJ. It is a crappy system, but it works better than using a key when your hands are full.

i thought it was just dried up mud. turns out it was nasty clay. Took 2full size Chevys to pull me out
