Default What is This??

I have this hose just hanging from either my Tranny or transfer case and I can't find where it goes or what it's for!
First pic is the end. 2nd shows it looping over the trans to the drivers side. 3rd is the other end connection point which I believe is the transfer case. Then a close up.
The end that's dangling.

Anyone know where the other end goes?

Thanks!

So where should the check valve end go?

Maybe wire tied on topside of engine/firewall and it just fell down?

Ah, okay I gotcha. I'll lengthen it and bring it up into the engine bay like just the axle vent tube.
Thanks man!

I'm just guessing but that is what it looks like to me. Could remove that part on end and try to suck/blow thru it. I don't recall mine having a hose but is a 2000 model and pretty sure they go to have a vent.

Assuming nobody changed anything that is the transfer case breather.
The tranny breather has one of those white top hat ones on it like the front diff.
Usually tucked higher up in the tranny tunnel, but tough see when looking down, on the passenger side.
I moved both of those and my rear diff breather up where the front diff breather is.
I don't know if eliminating the check valve on the transfer case one is a problem but I use the white top hat ones for all 4.
Been a long time and pretty sure everything is fine so....
In hindsight I should have just tied up the tranny and transfer case one to the firewall on the passenger side.
Since they come up on that side anyway.
Maybe someday I will fix that.

My XJ came stock with a 242 & I swapped it out for a 231 out of a TJ on 40's. Just an FYI.
