what is this?

it keeps slipping off, and I think i might need to buy a new one. For now it's just zip tied on. Does anybody know what this part is called, and where I can buy it?
That is the vaccum hose connection for the shift motor on your front axle. Yes you need it to stay attached. Without it the front axle will not engage when you shift into 4wd. You should be able to find it at a jy.

I already priced that out for my '88' it's about $180. not cheap. I decided to swap the front axle and tranfer case from my parts jeep since it dosint have all that vacume B-S. I never liked it anyway.
