Well, guys. I have an inner axle seal problem.

I had to get new axle housing for my 99 which is the front. So, I picked up a dirt cheap HP disconnect axle housing. I tore it down and installed the block off kit, new seals for the driver side. I was having issues with the passenger side seal as the block off kit provided didnt fit. So, I went out bought another driver side seal and installed it in the disconnect housing. When I refilled it there wasnt any leak until I drove it to work. noticed an wet inner side wall tires and I knew it was my seal leaking.

What is the right seal to buy and where am I suppose to install it? The disconnect housing or like the newer dana30 next to the carrier gears?

Which axle shafts are you running? New style doesn't have any machined area near the disconnect so you HAVE to install the seal in the diff. If it's the old style then I'd stick with the seal at the housing.

Use the seal in the diff then. National or Timken p/n 710068. Since it's a disco axle make sure the area where the seal sits is actually clean and dry, and apply a bit of RTV around the outer lip of the seal or in the race before pounding it in. Not much - just enough to fill any deformities.

I remembered buying a Timken seal. So I went out looking for my old box and it was a 710068. That the seal that is in the disconnect housing. I tried putting in the diff area, didnt fit. I remembered.

That's interesting. Those are the seals I'm running in my 1999 and 1998 D30s.

the axle I got is a disconnect style, I think it came out of a 1989 XJ and I convert it to one piece axle converison and put it in my 99 XJ.
