Default Well fudge, looks like I need an engine

If you were following along here:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/hyd...j-today-45751/

I hydrolocked my engine a few days ago. The final tally on damage is a fried TPS, a fried IAC, and a rod knock. I thought it was a collapsed lifter, bent pushrod, or a bent rocker but no, I'm not that lucky. I checked all of the rockers and the noise is coming from lower in the motor. I can't think of anything it could be other than I egged out a wrist pin hole when it hydrolocked. Anyone have any other suggestions before I get a short block? I just can't think of anything else that could be making that noise.

oh man that sucks...my buddy hydro locked his a week before you did and its running like a champ...sorry to hear.
well you couldve fried a bearing giving you some piston slap. i wouldnt replace it if youve just egged out a wrist pin. drop the pan and inspect the rods. if it's just one replace the rod/piston and keep going.
or you couldve mushed the main bearings giving you piston slap. if it were me id drop the pan and pull the head and take a look...hard to find a problem you cant see...

Yeah, but I can get a short block from the local bone yard for 100. Then I can take my time rebuilding it while I limp around my current engine. Then when I'm ready I can switch it out in an afternoon and not have any down time. I don't have another car to get to work in.

ya i cant argue with that because i did the same thing. i started getting real bag gas mileage and did a compression check and figured out i had a cracked piston ring, so i bought a 4.0 out of a 99' that was rolled, took a month and a half rebuilding it, and dropped it in in an afternoon so....i say go for it!
id even bore it a couple piston sizes over and gain a lil more displacement for a lil more power....

duude, sorry to hear that. i hydrolocked mine by spraying like 6 cans of carb cleaner when i had my intake off. it wouldn't even move the starter. so, i thought i had a bad starter. sometimes you don't think of the simplest things. i got under and shorted the starter a few times... it cranked right up and still runs like a champ. idles as smooth as my 2000 VW Jetta.

How is a bad main bearing going to give you piston slap?
