Default Welding/t-case ?

Fill plug on the 231 is not coming off with any tool known to man, If i weld a 3/4 nut on it I can get it off. Will the heat from the weld disturb the integrity of the alum. t case?

Good question, I'd be concerned about heat cracks in the aluminum.

I wouldn't weld it. But you might try heating it up some (not too much!) and that should make so you can get it out with a breaker bar or impact.

I thought it was an aluminum bolt. Well if it is steel it will do no harm to tack something on there. Just a spot weld on the 4 sides of the bolt you intend on welding on. If your nerviness give it 15 or so min. between spot welds. Spot welds like that do not get hot enuf to effect any thing internally.

Yes, welding a nut to the stripped plug will work. Work fast and try to minimize the heat getting to the aluminum. You might also try using a pointed punch or a chisel and a hammer and working aound the perimeter of the stripped plug. I removed a stripped plug on a Toyota transfer case using an air chisel with a pointed bit in it. Get the point to bite into the plug and use the impact to turn it counterclockwise.

Weld the center of the nut...(plug weld).....give it '1' minute, then remove with the correct socket. It should'nt disturb the aluminum, but it might destroy the gasket behind the plug.

You'll be fine.
