Im welding in new driver side from pedals to rear fender edge. Oddly the rest of floor is as good as new, prevous ownerr tried to patch driver side by slapping down a piece of sheetmetal and bondo over it, trapped moisture in between old floor and that metal rotting it out.

Would you remove gas tank before welding? I wont be going past front of rear fender.

 

Front of the rear fender, you'll be fine in that case (not near the gas tank), but be careful about burning through, the brake/fuel lines are on the drivers side frame rail, right below where you're welding.

P.S. Just for reference I did the same thing you're planning on doing, didn't remove the tank, no issues. The only time I hear about people removing the tank is for welding in the cargo area.

I was going to put some metal over lines to cover them. Maybe i should get a welding tarp and cover rear area underneath. I would think take out but wonder if open lines would be worse then sealed tank.

 

I would drop the lines down a bit and cover them with a welding blanket, along with any other wires or plastic bits that may melt or catch fire. Undercoat is pretty good at catching fire when welding so have a wet rag near by.

 

Same here; just pulled the lines down and drilled new "spot holes" in uniframe channel to weld to new floor.



If you look in upper left you can see where I moved seat back 2".

 

thanks guys i started today good except in thin areas im blowing through a little but im goona weld some L-brackets i made at work on and then rivet those areas.

 

Well, you could also just try turning down the amps, unless you're already at minimum

 

At min but im going to try not putting a bead and just tac it and come back around tac it again until i get it done

 

That will take alot longer I think

 

I your burning through like i was last night that metal is too weak cut it out and make a longer replacement peace
