So i got done installing the 3 inch rough country AAL and it rides awesome. Except there is a scraping sound coming from the rear or middle passenger side. I checked and made sure nothing is scraping and that nothing is broken with the suspension but i noticed that it only makes the sound right when i push the gas pedal and right when i take my foot off the gas pedal. I don't know much about SYE's but i heard that they are needed for some lifts, would that be it? I'm clueless, thanks in advance for any help.

Shock mount loose?

 

i checked both the u joints and the shock mounts. I did a search on here and looked at everything i could that didn't require money or special tools. I'm stumped : (

 

could it be your tailpipe rubbing on your passenger leaf spring, they sit pretty close to eachother and could have loosened/moved from working under there

 

I didn't check that. i'll check it as soon as i get to my jeep. Thanks!

 

if it is indeed the tailpipe, just cut it off and dump it right before the axle! also check your sway bar mounts near your passenger side coil spring, sometimes they tend to rub.

 

i found out what it is i think. I took of the rear passenger tire and noticed the cover to the drum brake moves in and out a little bit. I shoved it on as tight as possible, but it's still loose. Is there something special i have to do to get it to stay?

 

errr, that means that your breaks arent adjusted properly. Not positive on how to do that so someone else is gonna have to chime in there

 

Okay, well i read that i need to tighten the star like screw inside the drum. I'm not positive that will fix it though. I also read there is a screw i can tighten under the jeep, but i think that's just for the e brake.

 

There should be a small arm that turns that star when you step on the brake. It should be self adjusting

 

Surprised someone hasn't said to tell the rear passenger to STFU and quit screaming. If you don't like my driving , get out and walk.........

Whats probably happened is you hit the backing plate and bent it a little. It's now hitting the brake drum when you are applying the brakes which is why you are only hearing it then.

 

Have you installed a transfer case drop or axle degree shims? Do you not hear the noise if you are going less than about 45mph? If so, your driveline angles are a little off now and the rear driveshaft is vibrating. When under no load the slack in the drivetrain makes a sort of grind/rattle sound. A 1" tc drop and 2 degree shims fixed it for me. A sye and a cv driveshaft should not be necessary for a 3" lift.

 

I read that self adjust but also that you have to adjust them sometimes

 

I can hear it on the drivers side just as well as the passenger side, it's kinda scary.

i hear the sound when i hit the gas pedal, not the brake.

The drum goes on straight when i push it towards the axle but then it slides back when i let go.
