Turns out I have the 35C with trac-lock. The wheel bearing installation went pretty well but I did have a time of it getting the old bearing and seals out. Talk about stubborn. I ended up pulling the brake shoes so I could get a better angle for prying out the old seal. I did try to pull both the bearing and seal with the slide hammer out at the same time but that was futile. Anyway, got the seal dug out and then proceeded to use the puller and slide hammer on the bearing. That thing would not budge no matter what. I ended up using a 3 foot pry bar and working side to side on the bearing with that. I thought the dang thing was going to fall of the jack stands it took so much force to get it out. Anyway it's all put back together and waiting for the gasket sealer to set and then I'll fill the differential in the morning and take it out to see if the noise is any quieter. One thing though. I removed the cap on the carrier bearing so I could get to the set screw on the shaft and I noticed when I turned the race on the carrier that it didn't turn as smoothly as I expect it should be. And I could hear it too so I have a feeling that's where the tire type of noise is coming from.

My thoughts are the diff needs a friction modifier in the oil for the trac lock. The lack of it will cause shudder.

Ron, I used Valvoline full synthetic 75w-140 for limited slip. Is that good enough? I'm wondering about that carrier bearing. Pat

Possible on the bearing but it should have some preload on it making it hard to spin.
If the noise persists especially while making a tight turn add a tube of friction modifier. About 8 bucks at a parts store.
