Default Weird Oil Pressure Sending Unit Issue

I am sorry for another thread on this topic but after searching I couldn't seem to locate the same issue. I ordered a new unit from the Jeep Dealer. Immediately, I noticed the new one is shorter in length than the old one. I assume somewhere in the past 20 years Jeep redesigned the unit. When I pulled the connector and it had some oil on it. I cleaned it off and put in the new unit. Hooked back up the connector to it and then went and turned on the jeep. Immediately got pinned past the max mark. It is a 1993 Cherokee Country. Any thoughts?

There may be a larger issue at stake - especially if the last sender got blown out. Confirm the oil pressure value with the use of a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Remove the new sender and thread the mechanical gauge into that location - may need an adapter.

Oil Pressure sending units changed over the years. Here's the Year/Part number breakdown:

'91/56026782
'92-'96/56026779
'97/56031003
'98/56031005
'99+/5602807AA

Check the wrapper or receipt your new sending unit came in and see if the part number matches up to the '92-'96 part number.

They could have given you the one for the light and not for the gauge.

my sensor did that one time after I changed the oil. I unplug the sensor every time i change the filter because I once broke it being too rough getting the filter off

I cleaned it off really well after seeing the pressure on the dash shoot through the roof, and it hasnt done it again. the non-oem sensors are finicky though

Thanks all for the quick response! Ken looks like you are right the part they gave me is 56026719 which some sites say is compatible with the 4.0 but is proving not to be true. Since cleaning and putting my old one back in it seems that this one is working just fine for now. But, I will be changing it with correct one soon just for peace of mind.

RTorrez1 was right, 56026719 ('92-'93) is a pressure switch, not a sending unit.

Okay super newbie question now. Does that go somewhere else or it is simply just the wrong part? I mean like I said it looks similar however one is just shorter. I feel like the Dealership is going to give me a hard time when trying to get correct piece.

Ran in to similar problem when I changed the sending unit, my guage pegged out over 80psi. Turned out the dealer sold me a sending unit for a 96 Grand Cherokee rather than a standard cherokee. They could have sold you the wrong unit. They looked the same, dealer replace unit with the correct one and pressure was ok.

The Switch or the Pressure Sensor go in the same spot on the motor. It's the wrong part.

Give the counter puke at the dealer the correct part number and tell him it came from the 93 parts catalog.

They may give you a hard time returning it because it has been used. The dealer that I buy parts from trys to charge me a 15% restocking fee, but I nicely remind them that THEY F'd up by giving me the wrong part(s).

I use a new one from NAPA on my 90 XJ. It is also smaller than the original one. But I got the right one.

I am starting to think going to the local auto parts store may have been a better bet haha. Part is backordered and who knows when it will be in. But it on its way and the old one is holding for now. Thank you guys for all your help.
