Weird clicking noise from E-Brake
Hey guys, just installed a new transfer case yesterday and I’m only getting this clicking noise right under my E-brake between 25-35 MPH. Any suggestions would help a lot!
Changes with speed? Any change in 4wd? Is it there when not moving and just reving the engine in drive with brakes on? It could just be the exhaust rattling against the cross member.
After 50 MPH it’s Gone but this is usually a backroads Going 35-40 type of XJ..Not really the one to use the highways or past the speed limit. No change when in 4wd And no Rattle revving when parked. I’m going to attach my GoPro to the bottom and see if its the exhaust banging the cross member. Thanks for the reply @Lawsoncl

There is no e-brake on an XJ. I think the last car to be built with an emergency brake was before WWII.
The "e-brake" mentality has been responsible for a lot of accidents. Yank that thing during an emergency and you are almost certain to lose control. Can it help in some emergencies? Of course! Very rarely.
That doesn't mean that's what it's there for. It's far more likely to get you in more trouble.
It's a parking brake. It should be used every time you park your car.
The saddest part is this guy acting surprised that yanking on the "e-brake" caused him to lose control.

The only "emergency" where you should use your parking brake is when you have a complete total failure of the actual brakes. But that shouldn't ever happen since you maintain and inspect your car, right?
